Family Interaction, Marital Quality, and Sibling Rivalry Among School-Age Children

The second child is commonly birthed to the family in the family with school-age children phase. When this happens, the first child often develops the feelings of uneasiness and enviousness because the parent’s love is now divided with the sibling. This study aims to analyze the correlation and influence of marital quality and family interactions on sibling rivalry of family with school-age children. The approach of this study is quantitative with cross-sectional design. The respondent of this study are wives of an intact family with first child in the school-age (6-12 years old) and the second child aged 3 to 11 years old, lastly the family lives in Gunungbatu or Sindangbarang Regency. Non-probability sampling and purposive technique is used in this study to determine the sample. Study showed positive significant correlation between father education time and family interactions, also between family interactions and marital quality. This study also showed negative significant correlation between family interactions and marital quality with sibling rivalry. This study also showed negative influence of marital quality on sibling rivalry.
